AB Karl Hedin Emballage is a leading supplier of innovative wood-based packaging solutions. We develop and manufacture customized packaging in wood, plywood, and combination solutions - from simple pallets and boxes to advanced custom packaging for heavy and sensitive goods. Each solution is designed based on the product’s requirements, mode of transport, and logistical conditions.
AB Karl Hedin Emballage has been owned by DTE Group, Scandinavia’s largest wood packaging group, since spring 2025. Together, we form a network of nearly 30 factories, working every day to provide our customers with the best possible solution for their specific needs.
Each facility is locally rooted and adapted to its market. Wood packaging is the common denominator, while product segments and areas of specialization vary. For our customers, this means a reliable partner offering both local presence and extensive reach.

We primarily deliver within the Nordic region and Europe, but we also handle global shipments. Our products comply with current international export requirements, such as ISPM 15.
The history of AB Karl Hedin Emballage
Our DNA has its roots in the early 1900s. It was then that the young Karl Hedin began working in the forests outside Fagersta. As a horse logger, he hauled timber out of the Swedish forests and early on built a deep knowledge of the raw material. Over time, the business developed from horse logging to trading standing timber. As business gained momentum, a collaboration was established with a circular sawmill in Vikmanshyttan, making it possible to further process the timber into high-quality sawn wood.
The next generation took over when his son, Lars Hedin, continued to develop the business through the establishment of the Karbenning sawmill and the Västanfors planing mill. What had once been a small family business now grew into a significant player in central Sweden.
Lars’ son, also named Karl Hedin, continued driving development at a high pace. The business expanded with larger forest holdings, improved processing, and new sales channels within the building supply trade and wood packaging. Making use of timber raw material that had previously gone to wood chips or pulp, and instead using it for packaging manufacturing, proved to be a successful business strategy.
Under Karl Hedin’s leadership, the packaging operations developed in close interaction with the sawmills, but above all together with the market and customers. The need for safe transportation, both within Sweden and for export, increased. Wood’s unique properties – low weight in relation to strength, durability, flexibility, and excellent protective capabilities - made wood packaging an obvious choice for many.
In modern times, the packaging business has grown both organically and through acquisitions. New facilities have been added where they complement our existing operations, gradually building the structure and expertise that characterize AB Karl Hedin Emballage today.
